Techno. You normally know where you stand with it. Not that as a genre it doesn’t throw up some surprises. Its long and glorious history since the early Detroit days has given us an untold number of visionary artists. But once a track gets going, you usually know what you’re in for. Not so when Blnd! gets behind a mix. This one’s a refit of Pushy!’s new release on Kiosk records, and takes you in more directions than a trip through Swindon’s roundabouts on a foggy morning on acid. It would sound equally at home on a distorted warehouse sound system at 4am or blaring out of an Xbox. Like most of Blnd!’s work, it’s uncompromising, original and compelling. For further proof, look no further than his forthcoming remix of Hollow Legs’ Grillin’ Me for Club Soda. Yet this is a producer who also, alongside searing techno, peels off infectious bits of dancehall and uk funky when the need takes him, as Cast Off Riddim shows below. He’s got a great set of photos over on his tumblr page as well. That’s some CV.
