Exciting vinyl-only release from London imprint Arkhive. Here we have a fella named Matches who “cut his teeth on the east London circuit as a DJ under various monikers”, so we may well have seen him under a different guise already. This EP is, if you’ll excuse the pun, a slow burner, tantalisingly hardening its pace over the 4 tracks, culminating with Orbit, a bang-on rave monster, one of those instinctive dancefloor twitchers that raises its tempo layer by percussive layer, starting off as a solitary synth stab and building irresistibly until you have an all-out hands-in-the-air classic daring you not to dance. The preceding tracks are not without considerable charm either. Dreaming embodies its name – a hypnotic, bass-heavy opener, with some deft piano touches, Let You is a quirky synth-driven slice of uplift. Just Can’t Get You Off My Mind could be a little too slick for some tastes but it tees things up nicely for the finale. Hats off to the vinyl-only garb too, always a measure of commitment. Out April 13th.
