This one really defies all description, though we’ll give it a go. Releases on Aus Music never let you down, and this is no exception. The release in question comes from Irish duo Bicep, whose Feel My Bicep blog has been featuring some of the finest house and techno for years now, whilst winning countless plaudits for their own productions and DJing. The Just EP is reminiscent of some of the most glorious dance music since the heyday of Acid. The analogue synth snaking its way between channels on the title track recalls Orbital at their peak. Celeste, premiered below by I-D mag, is something else, and it’s easy to run out of adjectives to do it justice – mournful, haunting, exhilirating … in the wrong hands it could go all new-age Euro-trance, but its majesty lies in its understatement. Percussion and sub-bass slowly creating the space for exquisite vocals and driving piano that a thousand house records would kill for. The Tranz Dub of Back to U, finally brings in the tough 4/4 kick that the duo are more readily associated with, and is acid house at its finest, recalling the halcyon days of A Guy Called Gerald and 808 State. Out on May 25th, in time for festival season, this will soundtrack many a raver’s summer.
