Still on a Bowie tip, for which we make no apologies, here’s one of Bowie’s most underrated offerings in which he cheekily out-Dylans Dylan. One of the few 60s-sounding tracks he made, even on an album from the 60s. Space Oddity may have reached earth in 1969 but it still sounds like a 70s record. Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed, however, does not, from its unwieldy far-out title to its psychedelic guitar chugging. Bowie’s chameleon vocal qualities are in full effect here, never again would he sound so reedily west-coast beatnik, the insane harmonica work only adding to the psych-blues vibe.
